Footnotes and Sources
EDVR vol. II: Described in early catalogs as "The cornfield medley, with whistle and gang-plank effects," this selection seems to have been a best-seller and was no doubt "improved" by various changes through the years, including changing the title on some issues to "Way down yonder in the cornfield." We suspect that may be the reason why it appears under various numbers in the Pre-Matrix lists and seems to occur in various remakes under three matrix numbers: See 407, 530, and 728.
Also recorded as [PM-]125, [PM-]1951, [PM-]3092, A-407, B-530, A-728, and B-728. A later recording by the Peerless Quartet (see B-21913) also was issued as 16218. Some copies of Vi 16218 issued from B-21913 show the Haydn Quartet as the main performer.
It is not known whether 1 or 2 was the issued take.
